Welcome!

My journey into this world of birth, postpartum and beyond began 25 years ago with the delivery of my own son. Following a very traumatic labour experience resulting in an emergency c-section, followed up with little to no postpartum support, I knew there had to be more out there. If you have found my page because you are either a woman, or are a dear loved one to one, and have either been or known someone who like me felt very much alone and unsure on how to navigate the world of pregnancy, birth and beyond, I encourage you to continue to keep reading.

As a Registered Nurse, along with Birth and Postpartum Doula, I have been attending hospital maternity units, birthing centres and home births for 25 years. Back then new moms were remaining in hospital on average for 3-5 days following delivery, dependent upon type of delivery and postpartum experience. Now, we can see new Mamas being sent home sometimes between 12 to 24 hours following birth. As a nurse I can tell you how hectic the medical world or nursing units are these days, how overworked staff are and how difficult it is to offer true 1:1 care to families that so desperately need it. How then is it possible for an expectant or new family to feel educated, supported, empowered, rested, and confident to grow or take their new baby home and feel prepared to take on what the next number of weeks/months will bring.

It is my story, along with that of many others, that I founded Blessed Beginnings for Mama & Me Nursing. So, mothers, their partners and babes will feel loved, cared for and supported. I may be a health care professional, but I will also be your best friend, safety net and cheerleader during your pregnancy, L&D, recovery and postpartum period, helping you to overcome the challenges, celebrate the milestones and get the much needed rest you need in between.

I am here to help, you don't have to do this alone. Be gentle on yourselves at this incredibly amazing, but also trying time. Remember you and this new little babe are developing and being born. I hope I can be a part of and walk alongside you on this journey.

With love and appreciation,

Tricia Pollen, RN BScN
